From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The popular vampire romance franchise The Twilight Saga leads the film category: Eclipse has eight nominations, from favorite movie to nods for its three principle stars. Favorite Movie nods include Alice in Wonderland, Inception, Iron Man 2, Toy Story 3, and The Twilight Saga: Eclipse.

Television medical drama Grey's Anatomy is a leader in the television category. In music categories, Glee, the musical TV show, leads the nominees, with Eminem and Lady Gaga following with four nods each.

The 44 total categories are voted on by fans, not industry peers or critics as with the upcoming Golden Globes, Grammys and Oscars.

Television show categories include dramas, comedies, and sci-fi/fantasies. In music, genres range from pop and rock to hip hop. There is also an online award for favorite viral video star.

New categories this year include Favorite Horror Movie, Favorite TV Doctor and Favorite Movie Star Under 25.

The show is similar to summer's Kids Awards on the children's television network Nickelodeon, and to the American Music Awards. Australia also hosts a People's Choice Awards.
