*Major spoilers follow - you have been warned*
The finale of the HBO series saw Jon Snow kill Daenerys Targaryen (Emilia Clarke) after she sent Drogon on a fire-breathing rampage through King’s Landing, murdering thousands of innocent civilians, as well as Jaime and Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey), in the process. As she lies on the floor of the throne room, fulfilling a season two vision, Drogon takes her body and soars off; it's the last we see of both.
Following this twist, fans have been highlighting a Vanity Fair cover interview with Clarke from May 2018.
"It f***ed me up knowing that is going to be a lasting flavour in someone’s mouth of what Daenerys is...", she said, trailing off.
It seems she's warmed to the scene over the past year. In a brand new interview with The New Yorker, she described her final scene as "poetic and beautiful".
