The father of a former Game of Thrones star says he plans to run for the Brexit Party at the next general election.

Sebastian Leslie, the councillor who was barred by the Tories after refusing to pay tax, revealed he wants to challenge MP Colin Clark for his seat.

He is the father of Rose Leslie, the actor who played Ygritte in the HBO show. In 2018, Leslie married her co-star Kit Harington, who played Jon Snow right up the show’s finale in May 2019.

Her other credits include Luther and US drama The Good Fight.

Mr Leslie was suspended by the Tories after a “protest” against corruption in the Scottish justice system that saw him refuse to pay thousands of pounds in council tax arrears.

He told Press and Journal: “The Brexit Party are putting out a set of policies that we believe will really appeal to the people of Scotland. The error to date of the SNP has been to try and create an independent Scotland in Europe and in the process, give away our farming, fishing and oil and gas.

He continued: “The Brexit Party approach is to give as much independence to Scotland as we can, so the Highlands can run own their own affairs and the lowlands without the centralisation of politics in Edinburgh.”

A spokesman for the Brexit Party has confirmed Leslie had been interviewed to stand for election.

He currently sits as an independent on Aberdeenshire Council.
