From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Claudia Winkleman was welcomed back to Strictly Come Dancing last night after taking three weeks off to care for her daughter who was burnt during a Halloween accident.
Matilda, eight, was hospitalised after her costume caught on fire. Winkleman received standing ovation from the audience yesterday, as she arrived on stage.
She had previously been replaced by Zoe Ball.
Winkleman has three children, Matilda, Jake, 11, and Arthur, 3, with film producer Kris Thykier.
The presenter hinted prior to the show that she was feeling nervous about her return, but thanked the NHS doctors and nurses who have been overseeing her daughter’s care.
She also said that her daughter was on the “long road to recovery”.
Winkleman joined Tess Daly as Strictly co-host this autumn when Bruce Forsyth decided to step down from the show after a decade.
Last weekend's Strictly saw Wimbledon champion Andy Murray's mother, Judy, and her partner, Anton Du Beke, voted off.
