Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

The 2018 Tony Award winners have been announced with The Band's Visit taking home the majority of accolades.

The musical, which tells the story of an Egyptian band that ends up stranded in the Israeli desert, took home 10 out of the 11 awards it was nominated for this year.

Harry Potter and the Cursed Child picked up six awards during the night including Best Play.

Actors Andrew Garfield and Nathan Lane both notably took home wins for their roles in Angels in America.

Despite receiving 12 nominations, SpongeBob Squarepants: The Musical only took home one prize, while Mean Girls didn't take home any awards.

Bruce Springsteen received a special Tony Award for his hit show Springsteen on Broadway.

The casts of Mean Girls and Summer: The Donna Summer Musical delivered memorable performances alongside students from Marjory Stoneman Douglas who sang a survival anthem from Rent.

This year's Tony Awards ceremony took place at Radio City Music Hall in New York City and was hosted by Sara Bareilles and Josh Groban.
