Kloots gave an update on the Broadway star’s health on Thursday, during an interview with Gayle King on CBS This Morning.
Asked about the road ahead in terms of Cordero’s recovery, Kloots said the “ultimate goal” would be to make the 41-year-old a candidate for a double lung transplant.
“[There’s] a 99% chance that he would be needing that in order to live the kind of life that I know my husband would want to live,” Kloots added.
“That is a long road away and a lot of things would have to line up in order for Nick to be a candidate for that.”
Cordero went to the emergency room on 30 March and was placed on a ventilator on 1 April, according to a previous update by Kloots.
Later in April, the Tony nominee had to have a leg amputated due to blood clotting issues.
Kloots said on Thursday’s interview that it’s hard to evaluate how much Cordero understands about his current situation.
“Do you think he knows that his leg has been amputated?” King asked, to which Kloots responded: “I have told him that.”
“I did. I told him, and I told him how there’s amazing prosthetics, and I told him that I’ve been talking to amputees,” Kloots added, “and [I tried] to give him encouragement.”
Kloots, who has a one-year-old son with Cordero, has shared updates about her husband's recovery throughout the past few months.
In a recent Instagram Story post, she explained that doctors have taken out Cordero's temporary pacemaker.
She urged others to continue exercising caution to limit the spread of the virus.
