From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The Fleabag actor will give five performances of Three Kings to an empty auditorium from 29 July to 1 August. The performances will stream directly to ticket holders.
The play, written for Scott by Beresford (Pride and The Last of the Haussmans), follows the story of eight-year-old Patrick and the events which ensue after his absent father unexpectedly returns.
Three Kings is billed as a “hilarious and heartbreaking” story exploring “fathers and sons, the gifts and burdens of inheritance, and the unfathomable puzzle of human relationships”.
The livestreamed play is part of the Old Vic’s “In Camera” series, an initiative developed with the goal of sharing live theatre during the pandemic. The series launched last month with its production of Lungs, starring The Crown’s Claire Foy and Matt Smith.
Three Kings will be staged by Matthew Warchus, the artistic director of the Old Vic. He said, “I am hugely grateful to Stephen for writing this play especially for the ‘Old Vic: In Camera’ series and to Andrew for agreeing to perform it.
“Their generous support of the Old Vic at this critical time and their spirit of adventure in joining us in this crucial fundraising experiment is enormously appreciated.”
Warchus was previously the artistic director for the theatre’s 2018 production of Harold Pinter’s The Caretaker.
Tickets for Three Kings are priced between £10 and £40, with a limited number available. Previously, tickets for Lungs were capped at 1,000 per performance in order to replicate the theatre’s real audience capacity.
The final performance of Three Kings on 1 August will be followed by a Q&A with Scott, hosted by television presenter Dermot O’Leary. Tickets for the Q&A will be sold at £20.
