IN The Opium Eaters (right), Anglo-Swiss clown trio Brouhaha inhale the essence of Thomas De Quincey's Confessions and head through a wardrobe into a hazy den of their own comic devising. Funny-ha-ha.

Theatre Workshop, Edinburgh (0131-226 5425) 3.30pm

Anna Reynolds and Moira Buffini's Jordan is a compelling monologue about a woman who, in an act of desperate love poisoned by paranoia, smothers her own baby. Buffini's portrayal of Shirley Jones, from bright-eyed dreamer to broken Holloway inmate, never forces the pathos of her subject, allowing raw emotion to bubble up through the veneer of cheerfulness.

Pleasance, Edinburgh (0131-556 6550) 7.50pm
