It’s remarkable and yet unsurprising that The Sims is still such an institution, and many people who don’t play any more will still recall fond memories of the older versions.
We asked readers to share the worst or most bizarre things they had done in the games. Below are our favourite responses:
'Kind of sick'
"Once I accidentally left the ageing setting on and one of my Sims turned into an old lady; I didn't want an old lady Sim so when she was in the garden I built four walls around her and left her to die. (Sounds kind of sick when I write it out...) - Claire
Unusual romance
"I made a Sim of myself and one of the guy I liked. Obviously the game progresses and we're now married with great-grandchildren - on the game that is. Luckily we are still together in real life too." - anon
Celebrity obsession
"I made loads of Sims with the names of famous people, drowned them and made a celebrity graveyard" – Carla Louise
Harsh conditions
"I used to construct large swimming pool and let all my Sims inside, later on I'll remove the ladder and watch which Sims would survive in those conditions." - anon
"I built several confined spaces and use it as prison's rooms. Let everyone inside the rooms, remove the door and see which sims would last the condition. Usually the winner will move to other house, fully furnished, made especially for him/her." - anon
Keep away from fire
"I would arrange furniture in a way that would block my Sim into a small space surrounding a burning wood fire.
If you were to leave something flammable - a chair, for example - in its direct vicinity, it would set alight; if you left a Sim next to a burning chair, the same rule would apply.
"So there I would sit, grinning menacingly, watching my own creation burn to a crisp as I waited for the arrival of the Grim Reaper to claim his soul. Good entertainment for an 11 year old." - Billy
