Your support helps us to tell the story

This election is still a dead heat, according to most polls. In a fight with such wafer-thin margins, we need reporters on the ground talking to the people Trump and Harris are courting. Your support allows us to keep sending journalists to the story.

The Independent is trusted by 27 million Americans from across the entire political spectrum every month. Unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock you out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. But quality journalism must still be paid for.

Help us keep bring these critical stories to light. Your support makes all the difference.

SCOTT CAPURRO'S LOVE AND

AFFECTION TOUR

Pleasance (venue 33), 60 The Pleasance (0131-556 6550), 6.50pm; to 2 Sept (not 29 Aug)

The San Franciscan queen bitch whose 1994 show Risk Gay netted him the Perrier award for best newcomer is back with a stand-up show, musing upon affairs of the heart and of the naughty bits. When Capurro works an audience, he works it - taking impish enjoyment in picking out straight guys and coming on to them with wicked persistence. He's also enlightening on the gay hotspots of Salt Lake City and Alan Titchmarsh's ability as an interviewer ("He should stick to gardening"). Capurro is a pussycat with claws, but so endearing that you end up wanting to take him home and hide him from your mother.
