Among the army of contemporary dance groups, Compagnie Ea Sola can truthfully claim to be unique. Its 13 elderly Vietnamese women perform traditional dances incorporating chanting, poetry and percussion. Their choreographer, Ea Sola, was forced to flee Vietnam in the 1970s, when her father was a resistance fighter. Returning 10 years later, she was inspired by the hat cheo dance of the Red River Delta. The result is Secheresse et Pluie, which receives its UK premiere tonight.
