THE BRITISH LIBRARY was planned in 1962, went through two site changes, three revisions and cost pounds 520 million. This scandal seems to have eclipsed the fate of the library's original home, the British Museum (right). The Reading Room was recently renovated while the inner courtyard is currently being covered by a glass roof. Kate Bellingham joins the engineers on site in Testing Times (9pm R4).
