BEEBAN KIDRON established her credentials as a director of note with her memorable BBC adaptation of Oranges Are Not the Only Fruit. Moving to the big screen, she helmed Amy Foster (8pm Sky Premier, right), a version of a Joseph Conrad story. Rachel Weisz stars as the eponymous heroine whose affair with a ship-wrecked Eastern European sailor (Vincent Perez) causes scandal in her 19th-century village. In this satellite premiere, a strong supporting cast includes Ian McKellen, Joss Ackland and Tom Bell.

Patrick Stewart gets away from his smooth Star Trek image with Dad Savage (11pm Sky Moviemax). In this heist thriller, showing for the first time on satellite tonight, he plays a ruthless criminal on the trail of his son's killer. Joe McFadden (The Crow Road) and Kevin McKidd (Trainspotting) co-star.
