Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

THE EXHIBITION

Henri Gaudier-Brzeska

If all you know about this artist who died at the age of 24 is the surprisingly restrained Ken Russell film, rush to this show which includes watercolours and some of his masterly drawings as well as the sculpture for which he is best known.

Mercury Gallery, London W1 (0171-734 7800)

THE PLAY

Ballad of Wolves

David Farr directs the second of two "Barbarous Comedies" by little-known Spanish playwright Ramon del Valle Inclan immediately after the success of the first, Silver Face.

7.30pm Gate Theatre, London W11 (0171-229 5387)

THE FILM

The Bridges of Madison County

Eastwood and screenwriter Richard LaGravenese junked almost everything in the execrable book and shifted the point of view to the woman (la Streep). The result should melt the stoniest of hearts. Grade A schlock.

Pictureville Cinema, Bradford (01274 727488)
