Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

THE FILM

One From the Heart

A Tom Waits musical, as unlikely as that may sound. All shot on gloriously colourful sets and starring the ever-watchable Teri Garr. It also stars Nastassia Kinski... whatever happened to her? A fascinating, flawed flop which bankrupted Francis Ford Coppola's dream, his very own Zoetrope studios.

Queen's Film Theatre, Belfast 2pm & 7pm (01232 244857)

THE EXHIBITION

Art and Power

The last week in which to catch this ambitious show charting the impact on art of the three key European totalitarian nations of the 1930s. Officially approved art from Germany, Italy and Russia, alongside the work of "degenerate" artists.

Hayward Gallery, London SE1 (0171-960 4242)

THE CONCERT

Leif Ove Andnes is the soloist in Prokofiev's virtuoso Third Piano Concerto with Mario Venzago conducting the CBSO in a programme that also includes Bruckner's monumental Third Symphony and begins with the overture to Rossini's enormous but rarely heard comic opera Il Viaggio a Rheims.

Symphony Hall, Birmingham 7.30pm (0121-212 3333)
