Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. In July, Roger Waters and David Gilmour of Pink Floyd played together for the first time since 2005 at a benefit concert in England. On August 16, the Hoping Foundation posted a video of the performance that can now be viewed online.
Talk of the reunion began in 2009, when Gilmour attended a celebrity karaoke benefit concert for The Hoping Foundation.
Waters explained in a July 14 post on his Facebook page: "In the wake of that evening, someone, I think it was David himself, came up with this 'Wouldn't it be funny', idea. What if he (David that is) were to sing the old Teddy Bears song 'To Know Him Is To Love Him' with me (Roger that is), what with us having been so famously at each other's throats for years and years."
Gilmour emailed the idea to Waters, who was enthusiastic, and the two agreed to perform that song plus Pink Floyd classics "Wish You Were Here" and "Comfortably Numb" at the following year's benefit. At showtime, the duo added "Another Brick in the Wall Pt. 2."
In return for Waters's agreeing to play the charity gig, Gilmour is set to appear on one un-announced date of Waters' 30th anniversary The Wall tour. That 94-date tour begins September 15 and runs through June 2011.
