Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Cometh The Hour
Indie four-piece Women’s Hour (not to be confused with the dulcet tones of Jenni Murray) are currently on the road with Metronomy and release their debut album Conversations on 14 July. Plus, art-cred points for roping in photographers Broomberg & Chanarin to do the artwork and videos. Watch “Her Ghost”
Jumping Jack Flash
Eccentric White Stripes front-man Jack White loves a gimmick. Last weekend his funk-driven new single “Lazaretto” became the world’s fastest released record (under four hours from recording studio to record stores). He’s about to embark on a world tour, and considering last time round he flipped a coin each night to decide on his backing group, there are sure to be plenty of tricks. Listen to “Lazaretto”
Ball Boy (And Girl)
We’ve flagged up brother and sister-fronted duo Bat and Ball in this column before, after the Florence-esque vocals of lead singer Abi caught our ear. But they’re so good we’re mentioning them twice. They’re releasing their new single “Stops My Mouth” next week and playing a gig at The Shacklewell Arms, London

Cherry Pick
If you want to see Neneh Cherry dancing around an abandoned warehouse, cackling, while dressed like a scarecrow, then legendary video director Jean-Baptiste Mondino has read your mind. Watch his seven minutes of brilliance, which was all shot in one take
Next week’s biggie ...
Lily Allen releases her new album Sheezus after a three year baby-break from music - she’s calling it her “mumback”. Following her patriarchy-smashing “Hard Out Here” video, something tells us it might be a controversial one. Watch her new video for the title track
