Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Touching The Voidz

Julian Casablancas from The Strokes has released an intriguing video featuring live footage of his new solo project with his band The Voidz. Shot on handheld, shaky camera and entitled “Can I VHS you?”, from the sounds of things we can expect a dirtier, punkier version of The Strokes or as Casablancas describes it - “a protest record”

ArtPop

Melancholy popsters Fear of Men took inspiration from performance artist Marina Abramovich to make their health and safety-defying video for new single “Luna”, which features live snakes and a bow and arrow. The band are named after a rare anxiety disorder which singer Jessica Weiss came across when researching mental illness and they cite Kafka among their influences. Cheerful!

All Hail Kiesza

We’re still loving the video for Canadian electro-pop dance diva Kiesza’s track “Hideaway”. The former ballerina and Navy sniper (now that’s a backstory) broke a rib while filming this 90s dance epic, shot on the streets of Brooklyn in just one take

A little night music

Four-piece funk-rock band Night Engine have already garnered comparisons to Bowie and Talking Heads but with new single “All I Got” they’re establishing their own (pretty groovy) sound ahead of their debut album out this Autumn

Next week's biggie

He might not be a household name but you’ll definitely recognise Aloe Blacc’s dulcet tones from his catchy 2010 single “I Need A Dollar” or his vocals on Acicii’s mega-hit “Wake Me Up”. Blacc’s new album Lift Me Up is reviewed next week and you can watch the video for his single “The Man”, which samples Elton John of all people
