There are any number of English bands with a heavy post-modern spin whose albums you'd never willingly listen to twice.

Clarinet specialist Shabaka Hutchings has shown himself to be a gifted, thoughtful player through his work with the Jazz Warriors and others, but despite an intriguing use of space, this trio with bassist Neil Charles and drummer Tom Skinner never quite settles, its attempts at dub reggae, Kraftwerk ("Showroom Dummies") and free jazz failing to convince.
