Wolf by name, sheep by nature, 24-year-old Max McElligott is the latest hot tip to fall at the first hurdle.

A baroque-popster rather obviously in thrall to both Mika's campiness and MGMT's synthery, his debut coasts along on some vaguely psychedelic vibrations and lithe melodies, with the "Kids"-ish "Lions in Cages" a highlight. But his falsetto is earnestly inexpressive, the wide-eyed lyrics cloying and there's nothing here to frighten the supermarket aisles.
