Album: Wanda Jackson, The Party Ain't Over (Third Man/Nonesuch)

Rockabilly queen Wanda Jackson was already 20 when she first hit with "Let's Have a Party" in 1958, and this Jack White-produced comeback album suggests there can be few septuagenarians keener on raising hell.

There are moments when she struggles with the torrential verbiage of Dylan's "Thunder on the Mountain", but she brings an authentic delinquent rockabilly flavour to "Shakin' All Over", where her tremulous delivery is further exaggerated by a vibrato effect. White's guitar adds a frisson of berserk wildcat danger, and he makes some inspired production choices – the Caribbean cornball setting of "Rum and Coca-Cola", the cosmic oompah arrangement of "Busted" – although it's Jackson's informed reading of Amy Winehouse's "You Know I'm No Good" that provides the standout moment.
