Should you give the Features a chance because they are Kings of Leon's favourite band, as well as the first act signed to their fledgling label?

No. You should give the Features a chance because they are very good at what they do. Twelve years of obscurity will do that to a band. And what this Nashville-based act do is make grown-up pop that sounds like the Kinks might if they still made records together. It's unchallenging and familiar (Kings of Leon for dads, if you like), but there's even something reassuring about that.
