This solo album by the Magazine keyboardist precipitated that band's triumphant reunion last year, brought on by Howard Devoto's vocal contribution to the track "Via Sacra".
But while that moment has all the gently threatening glory of Magazine in their pomp, much of the rest of Satellite Sweetheart – themed around Yuri Gargarin's visit to the Manchester of Formula's youth – is more lounge-jazz than post-punk. And while ageing with dignity is one thing, Formula's playing is always at its loveliest when set against Devoto's claws.
