Y Not festival guests share photos of carnage after extreme weather forces organisers to cancel event

Attendees criticised the festival as they queued for up to four hours to leave the site

Y Not guests have criticised the festival over the apparent "chaos" that ensued after organisers cancelled the event due to "adverse weather conditions".

The Derbyshire festival was set to continue on Sunday 30 July but organisers said the risk was "too severe".

A scheduled performance by The Vaccines was cancelled entirely, while Clean Bandit ended up doing a DJ set instead of a full show.

Guests were asked to pack their belongings and leave the site "calmly", with staff supposedly available to help.

However, soon after the announcement was made, attendees took to social media and claimed that they had been forced to wait in car park queues for almost four hours.

One attendee shared a picture of a car park, writing" “@Y_Not_Festival been in the same spot in car park 3 for 45 minutes now. What’s this?”

Another wrote: “@Y_Not_Festival you left people with no way to get out of the car park we had to push others out though over a foot of mud. Only help was from a few local farmers with tractors a disgrace.”

Many guests claimed that there were no stewards available to help in the VIP car park, and that organisers were "unprepared" for the poor weather.

Another attendee posted “a bit of a rant” about the festival, saying stage times were pushed forward and headliners were cancelled, where they also complained of poor security.

However some guests managed to laugh about their situation, posting photos and video of themselves knee-deep in mud, along with rather depressing pictures of abandoned tents and deserted festival attractions.

The festival said they will be providing information about refunds in the coming days.
