A metal band has gone on hiatus by way of a dramatic break-up note claiming infidelity – and death – have brought its activities to a halt.

Witchrot, a group based in Toronto, Canada, is taking an extended break, according to a note shared on Facebook over the weekend, presumably by one of its members.

The message, signed "Peter", doesn't beat around the bush and begins with: "Due to the unfortunate reality of our guitarist f****** my girlfriend of almost seven years WITCHROT will be taking an extended hiatus."

Peter said he would continue creating music "in another space and time", and explained that he intends to express his anger through art.

"Being ripe with hate the music is slowly flowing and without a doubt will become the most devastating, torturous music I have ever created," he added.

Peter appeared to have reached the end of his message, telling his fans "Thanks for the support, stay heavy", when he unexpectedly shared some shocking news.

"Also our drummer died," he wrote without further detail.

Along with the update, Peter shared a photo of a broken electric guitar resting in a pile of rubbish.

Witchrot describes itself on its Facebook page as a mix of "hex, drugs, and rock n' roll".

The band released a self-titled EP last month.

Peter appears to be moving on and has shared a link for the Facebook page of his other band, Crazy Bones.

His original message has gone viral, attracting 7,400 reactions on the platform and receiving 2,900 comments – significantly more than Witchrot's usual publications.
