From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

'Godfather of grime' Wiley is getting his own big-screen treatment, according to a report in Variety.

The music pioneer behind crossover hits including "Wearing My Rolex" will be the main feature of the production from Pulse Films and BMG.

Adam Smith will helm the picture which tells of his tumultuous life story, along with the growth of grime from its underground roots to a genre with fans around the world.

Smith's feature debut was Trespass Against Us which starred Michael Fassbender. He also headed up the Chemical Brothers documentary Don't Think and directed the music video for Wiley's track "Wot Do U Call It?".

Wiley, born Richard Kylea Cowie, said: "This is my life, my highs and lows, but it's not really all about me. When I make music, help the scene or even do something like this, it's like I'm not alone any more. It's for people who grew up like me. I'm doing it to help people who are lost like me."

Wiley's latest album Godfather II was released on 27 April.
