Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Weezer have finally released a cover of Toto's beloved song "Africa" after trolling fans with an earlier cover of the band's song "Rosanna".
Since 1992, the LA-formed Weezer have performed several memorable cover songs including Radiohead's "Paranoid Android", "Velouria" by The Pixies, and "War Pigs" by Black Sabbath.
A fan campaign led by dedicated Twitter account @WeezerCoverAfrica had - for months - called on the band to cover the classic 80s anthem, to no avail, although drummer Patrick Wilson responded with "I laughed" to one tweet.
Instead, last week Weezer released an upbeat cover of "Rosanna" which charted at No.2 in the UK and earned the band a Grammy in 1983 for Record of the Year.
"Weezer seems to be straight-up f**king with us at this point," Noisey noted.
But it's finally happened - the band has blessed the rains and covered "Africa", releasing the rendition on their official YouTube account. They even nodded to the fan account that started this all by including a screenshot in the video post.

Last week we wrote an appreciation of "one of the most cathartic songs of all time" which you can read here.
