From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

On February 1, more than 30,000 tweeters shared the names of music and songs they liked in a tweet using the "#musicmonday" hashtag. The week's top songs recorded on twit40.com include longstanding chart-toppers by 30 Seconds to Mars, Lady Gaga, and Kings of Leon, plus singles by Taylor Swift, Maxwell, and Lady Antebellum.

Many of this week's selections seem to have been inspired by the Grammy Awards show that took place on Sunday night. Taylor Swift's "You Belong With Me" climbed into fourth on this week's Music Monday chart the day after the country singer won four Grammys, including Album of the Year - the biggest and final prize of the night.

Maxwell's "Pretty Wings" was another popular pick this week. The first single off the R&B singer's BLACKsummers'night album, the track won the Grammy Award for Best Male R&B Vocal Performance, while the full album was named Best R&B Album.

Country vocal group Lady Antebellum took home a Grammy for Best Country Performance by Duo or Group with Vocals for "I Run to You." The group just released a new album, Need You Now, on January 26, and the title track from that album was a favorite Music Monday track.
