The Killers song Mr Brightside breaks ridiculous chart record 17 years after being released

It’s further proof the indie anthem is one of the millennium’s biggest tracks

The Killers have broken a pretty staggering record with their song “Mr Brightside”.

Since it was first released in 2004, the song has become an indie pop anthem and one of the biggest tracks of the millennium to date.

Now, it’s been revealed that the Hot Fuss single has remained in the Top 100 for more consecutive weeks – 260 – than any other song. That’s a full five years in the charts.

Its closest competitor is Snow Patrol’s song “Chasing Cars”, which was in the charts for 166 weeks after being released in 2006.

Interestingly, “Mr Brightside” only appeared in the charts for just one month after it first debuted, but re-entered the top 100 five years ago, where it has remained ever since.

In December, the song reached an impressive one million sales and has been streamed in the UK more than 281m times.

The Killers are set to go on tour in 2022, having originally sold tickets to play this summer.
