From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The pop star got a surprise on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon this week when he brought up the surgery, which she hadn’t made public.
He then revealed that Swift’s mum gave him a copy of the video, which was aired live on the show.
In the clip, Swift is seen wearing goggles as she picks a banana from the kitchen. “That wasn’t the one I wanted,” a distressed Swift says. “Stop,” her mum says. “You can’t cry.”
“What do I do with this now? It doesn’t have a head,” Swift says, before her mother reassures her that she will eat the other banana.
Later Swift is shown in bed eating the banana as her mother tells her not to fall asleep. “I’m not asleep,” Swift replies. “My mind is alive.”
Swift has been promoting her seventh album, Lover, which was released in August to critical acclaim. She is scheduled to perform on this week’s episode of Saturday Night Live, which will be hosted by Fleabag star Phoebe Waller-Bridge.
Last month, she revealed plans to tour her new record with a series of headline shows at music festivals around Europe, along with a four-date festival in the US called LoverFest that she created herself.
