Taylor Swift has released the video for "Cardigan", a song from her eighth album Folklore.

It shows Swift performing on an old upright piano in a room with a flickering fireplace. As Swift plays, sparks begin to emerge from the piano and she climbs in, emerging into a magical glade with a waterfall.

When she climbs into the piano stool again, she finds herself in a stormy sea and clings helplessly to her piano. When she manages to climb in, she finds herself back in the original room, shivering. She pulls on a cardigan and looks into the camera

The visuals were written and directed by Swift herself, and brought to life with cinematographer Rodrigo Preito and producer Jil Hardin.

Rebecca Skinner served as executive producer,Joe Osbourne as assistant director. Others who worked on the video include editor Chancler Haynes, special effects designers David Lebensfeld and Grant Miller, and set designer Ethan Tobman.

Swift explained: "The entire shoot was overseen by a medical inspector, everyone wore masks, stayed away from each other, and I even did my own hair, makeup, and styling."

Folklore has received critical acclaim in early album reviews. The Independent praised Swift for her "exquisite, piano-based songwriting" – read the full review here.
