From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

First, St Vincent created her own guitar with “room for a breast” and now, she’s writing and directing her first horror movie.

The art rock singer, real name Annie Clark, is working on a film in the XX horror anthology. Four Deadly Tales by Four Killer Women will be in four parts, with each one written and directed by a different female creative: Clark, and filmmakers Jennifer Lynch, Karyn Kusama and Jovanka Vuckovic.

Jennifer’s Body director Kusama first confirmed the news on a Killer POV podcast. “Jovanka’s film is finished, mine is finished, I think we’re waiting on Annie Clark from St Vincent, who is now making her own films,” she said. “She has a film in it.”

Kusama hinted that the films will be “very different [with] overriding anxieties about female-ness to a degree”.

“I want to say body horror is a component,” she continued. “I remember my first idea I couldn’t do because not that it was…too similar, but thematically, we were treading in the same waters. Todd Brown (producer) feels pretty certain that they’ll end up being natural thematic alignments.”

Clark announced the news herself shortly afterwards, sharing a poster for the anthology on her Instagram page. “So thrilled to be able to explore the genre,” she wrote underneath.
