From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

On Tuesday (20 April), the rapper released his new album From Tha Streets 2 Tha Suites.
On the track “Gang Signs”, he raps: “Still sippin’ gin and juice / While I’m smoking marijuana / I bet you never blew with Obama.”
While it is not known whether Snoop and Obama did smoke together, the “Young, Wild and Free” musician has previously claimed to have used the drug in a bathroom at the White House.
“When I do a number two I usually have a cigarette or I light something to get the aroma right,” he told Jimmy Kimmel on his YouTube channel.
“[The CIA agents] said, well you know what, you can light a piece of napkin.
“I said I’ll do that – and the napkin was this,” he explained, indicating the joint in his hand.
His claims were never verified, although it was confirmed that Snoop visited the White House in December 2013.
Earlier this month, it was announced that the rapper was joining US reality TV show The Voice as a “Mega Mentor” alongside regular judges Kelly Clarkson, John Legend, Nick Jonas, and Blake Shelton.
