Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Sigma and Paloma Faith have toppled Calvin Harris and John Newman off the number one spot this week with their single ‘Changing’.

The summery track features Paloma Faith on vocals and climbed 114 places after it was released last week.

The song marks the drum and bass pair’s second number one hit. They reached the top of the charts earlier this year with ‘Nobody to Love’, a re-mix of Kanye West’s ‘Bound 2’.

Sigma consists of Cameron Edwards and Joe Lenzie who met at Leeds University back in 2006.

‘Changing’ is Paloma Faith’s first number one and the singer said it was an “amazing achievement.”

“I’ve done three albums so far so it just goes to show that if you hang in there, something’s got to give,” she said.

There was also a new number one in the UK album chart, with The Script’s record No Sound Without Silence beating Barbra Streisand’s Partners.

Both were new entries to the album chart and sent Sam Smith’s debut In the Lonely Hour into third place.

No Sound Without Silence is the Irish pop rock band’s third UK number one album and was announced back in July.

Streisand’s duets album Partners features collaborations with Lionel Richie, Michael Bublé and Elvis Presley.
