From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Singer Sia has become a grandmother for the first time at the age of 44.

The “Chandelier” performer adopted two adult sons in 2019 and revealed in an interview with Zane Lowe on Apple Music this week that one of them had recently become a father.

“My youngest son just had two babies, I’m just immediately horrified,” Sia joked.

“No, I’m cool. They call me Nana. I’m trying to get them to call me Lovey, like Kris [Jenner]. I’m like, ‘Call me Lovey’... I’m a f***ing grandma!”

In May, the Australian singer opened up for the first time about adopting her sons, who were both 18 and “ageing out” of the foster care system at the time.

“I actually adopted two sons last year, they were 18 but both are now 19, [they were] ageing out of the foster kid system and I love them,” she said.

“I’m a little bit jaded now after investigating the foster system as much as I have done in the last year. It’s failing us. Not in my experience, in my sons’ experience. They’ve been in 18 different locations in their 18 years.”
