From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Sam Smith has announced another string of tour dates in 2015 following the success of his debut album In the Lonely Hour.

The artist, who reclaimed the top spot on the UK album charts last night, will play a number of dates across the UK in March next year.

The “Money On My Mind” singer will begin his Europe tour at the start of March in cities including Brussels, Amsterdam and Milan before heading to the UK for eight dates including two special shows at London’s Brixton Academy in March.

Sam Smith will also perform at the Manchester Apollo, Glasgow O2 Academy and Wolverhampton Civic Hall.

The tour announcement follows the success of Smith’s debut album, which has gone platinum in the UK selling over 1.9 million copies worldwide.

Earlier this year, the 22-year-old spoke openly for the first time about his sexuality, revealing that his debut album was written about a boy.

The singer said he had never been in a relationship before and wrote the record about unrequited love, but hoped it would have universal appeal.

Tickets go on sale to the general public at 9am on Friday 12 September.
