From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Adele's emotional message to the royal newlyweds included a brief commemoration to Diana, Princess of Wales.

The musician may not have been a part of the celebrations, but it didn't stop her from popping on a veiled fascinator to toast the new Duke and Duchess of Sussex, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, on their wedding day.

"Congratulations Meghan and Harry," she captioned the Instagram post, holding aloft a champagne flute. "You're the most beautiful bride. I can't stop thinking of how happy Princess Diana is upstairs x."

The service in St. George's Chapel subtly commemorated the groom's mother, the late Princess of Wales, in several ways. Diana's favourite flower, forget-me-nots, were tucked into the bride's bouquet, which Harry had handpicked from Kensington Palace's private gardens they day before the wedding.

Diana's sister, Lady Jane Fellowes, delivered a reading at the service, while one of the songs included was "Guide Me, O Thou Great Redeemer", which was sung at Diana's funeral in 1997.

Meghan also wore an emerald-cut aquamarine ring that once belonged to Harry's mother to the reception.
