Robbie Williams won the MTV Europe Music Award for best male singer last night at a ceremony watched by an audience of a billion pop fans around the world.
The American Jennifer Lopez was named best female singer but chose not to attend the ceremony in Frankfurt after the 11 September attacks.
Best R&B award went to Craig David and Best Group was won by the US nu-metal band Limp Bizkit. Gorillaz, the group formed by the Blur frontman, Damon Albarn, who were nominated for six awards, won two. Dido was named best new act. The awards, hosted by Ali G, are designed to honour the best musicians in Europe, although Americans figured heavily in many categories.
