Robbie Williams has discussed drug use during an Instagram video.

The former Take That singer was answering questions from fans, when two men asked ”Which gear should I be on?”

Williams, who has 1.7 million followers on the social media service, replied: ”I know it is a gag, but are you talking like steroids, or speed or weed?”

One of the men, from Nottingham, replied: “No it was cocaine... that is what we call it.”

The 44-year-old father of three answered by saying that it has been ”a long, long time” since he had taken the drug.

“Look, I am 44 and when you get to 44 the heart can’t keep up with that s**t. I have got kids,” he said.

Williams, who acts as a judge on The X Factor alongside his wife Ayda Field, then asked how old the men were.

On finding out they were 20, he mused: ”You’re good, carry on, have a great time, write it all down so you can have it in your memoirs.”

Williams then moved on to discussing alcoholic drinks: “Rum is great. Whisky is just f***ing weird. Rum is a lot of fun. Do you drink Drambuie?

“I mean not that you would ever take ecstasy, but it goes very well with ecstasy. Not that you ever would.”

He added: “Awful, don’t do it.”

The singer has previously spoken openly about his battles with drink and drugs, once revealing he took anti-depressants helped him overcome “demons”.

The Independent has contacted Williams for further comment.
