Nice terror attack: Rihanna concert and Nice Jazz Festival cancelled after Bastille Day atrocity

Production on the Fifty Shades sequel was also taking place in the city

Rihanna has cancelled a show in Nice following the devestating Bastille Day attack that killed over 80 people in the French Riviera city on Thursday evening (14 July).

The singer's rep revealed that she is "safe" despite being in the city at the moment a driver veered a lorry directly into crowds of people. She was due to perform a show at the Allianz Stadium as part of her Anti World Tour on Friday evening (15 July).

Nice's former mayor Christian Estrosi made the announcement via Twitter. The current president of the PACA region also went on to confirm the cancellation of Nice Jazz Festival commenting that flags will today be flown at half-mast to commemorate the victims.

Rihanna's tour will resume in Frankfurt, Germany where she will perform at Commerzback Arena on Sunday evening (17 July).

It was reported that production on Fifty Shades sequel Fifty Shades Darker had been taking place in the city ahead of the attacks. Cast and crew - including stars Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan - are safe and accounted for, reports Variety.

The terror attack is France's second deadliest since World War II behind the bombings and mass shootings that swept Paris last November.
