It's the first of three events taking place this year
Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. This first of three Record Store Day events in 2020 takes place today across the UK.
Vinyl hunters will no doubt be preparing to wade through everything on offer following the announcement that there will be 350 exclusives arriving in independent record shops.
The annual event usually takes place in April, but was delayed due to the pandemic.
Following today’s event (29 August), it will return on 26 September and 24 October in an attempt to help maintain social distancing measures.
Among the special releases on offer will be four exclusive David Bowie releases, a 12” of Bob Marley‘s “Redemption Song” and a limited number of copies of The Weekend’s 2018 album My Dear Melancholy.
Other musicians whose records will be released as part of the event include Duran Duran, Iggy Pop, The Kinks and New Order.
Kylie Minogue’s collaboration with Giorgio Moroder, titled “Right Here Right Now” will also be available, as will a rare record from alternative rock band Spaceman 3.
