Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

It’s getting to that point in August when it’s noticeable that the days are starting to get shorter and summer is coming to an end. But don’t worry, Rae Sremmurd are here to do to it what Mentos do to Coke.

Sremmlife 2 dropped on iTunes (and Spotify in some regions) overnight, housing 14 tracks and features from Gucci Mane, Juicy J, Lil Jon and Kodak Black.

I’m listening right now and am happy to confirm it’s lit.

I like how Swae Lee and Slim Jxmmi, whose fans include Kendrick Lamar, haven’t really played the mixtape game, instead allowing us to exhaust the hell out of the excellent Sremmlife before issuing the follow-up.

Sremmlife 2 continues ts predecessor’s permanently-turned-up-to-100 vibe, avoiding the ‘introspective downbeat’ trend other rappers are chasing and just bringing straight up party music, which is exactly what we need in this confusing and often upsetting political climate.
