From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

While there may be a new Kanye West album in the world, hip-hop fans are still shaking after Pusha T released one of the most spiteful diss tracks of all time, “The Story of Adinon,”

On the track, the rapper called Drake a “deadbeat motherfucka” and claimed the Views singer has a ‘secret’ son with former adult film star Sophie Brussaux. The song was released accompanied by a controversial piece of artwork: a photograph of Drake in blackface.

Rather than take Pusha on with another diss track, Drake decided to release a statement clarifying the meaning behind the ‘blackface’ photograph: “The photos represented how African Americans were once wrongfully portrayed in entertainment.”

He continued: “This was to highlight and raise our frustrations with not always getting a fair chance in the industry and to make a point that the struggle for black actors had not changed much.”

The company who made the “Jim Crow” clothing Drake can be seen wearing in the photograph have also released a statement on the issue.

While some fans were understanding, Pusha went on the offensive once more. “That does not change my view at all,” he told Los Angeles’ Real 92.3, according to Pitchfork.

“You are silent on all black issues, Drake.... You don’t stand for nothing, you don’t say nothing about nothing. You have all the platform in the world. You were so passionate back then? No, you weren’t. That’s number one. That’s what I know.”

Whether Drake will respond remains unknown, but Pusha has claimed on Twitter that there’s currently a $100,000 reward for anyone who has dirt on him.
