Oasis have announced their long-awaited reunion tour, 15 years after the infamous backstage bust-up between brothers Noel and Liam Gallagher.

The Manchester-formed group, one of the defining rock bands of the Nineties, split in 2009 after a fiery row in Paris and have not played together since.

In a highly anticipated message, the band announced a run of 14 shows in the UK and Ireland next summer.

“The guns have fallen silent. The stars have aligned. The great wait is over. Come see. It will not be televised,” the band said.

The dates in Cardiff, Manchester, London, Edinburgh and Dublin will be Oasis’s “only shows in Europe next year”, it’s been confirmed. Find details on how to get tickets here.

There have been a number of hints in recent months, not least a surprise interview last week where Noel offered some rare praise of his younger brother. Both he and Liam have enjoyed successful solo careers since their split – Liam as a singer-songwriter and Noel with his band the High Flying Birds.

Noel and Liam Gallagher: Inside Britain’s most infamous sibling rivalry – and what led them to reunite

Oh, brother. From Cain and Abel to Prince Harry and Prince William, the annals of history are filled with fraternal rivalries. But has there ever been a sibling spat quite as bitter – and as public – as that between Noel and Liam Gallagher?

This week, the sibling frontmen of the hit Mancunian rock group Oasis announced that they were reforming the band for a much-hyped UK stadium tour, after 15 years of estrangement.

When the “Wonderwall” hitmakers disbanded in 2009, Noel and Liam’s once-brotherly relationship became arid and inhospitable: no Oasis, just desert.

In the years since, fans have consistently speculated about a reunion, though the Gallaghers’ frosty relationship has long made the prospect unlikely.

Now, it seems as though the famously loggerheaded duo have patched things up – at least enough to share a stage once again.

Liam Gallagher appears to look furiously at Noel during penultimate Oasis gig in resurfaced footage

Oliver Browning reports:

Oasis have announced a shock reunion tour, 15 years after the infamous bust-up between brothers Noel and Liam Gallagher.

The Manchester-born band, who released their chart-topping album Definitely Maybe around three decades ago, confirmed a series of dates that will kick off at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium in July 2025.

In resurfaced footage from their penultimate show one month earlier, Liam appears visibly upset as Oasis perform at iTunes Festival in London.

According to reports from the time, Liam was involved in a fracas with an audience member throughout the gig after an object was apparently thrown.

Oasis are reforming and the signs are everywhere that it’s a return to 1997 all over again

Post-pandemic, current-cost of living crisis, people are angrier and more bitter, and that feels intensified by social media, which expresses and fosters hate much better than it does laughter. By 1997, money had started to come back into the economy, and the ubiquitous spite of social media hadn’t poisoned the national mindset; where 2023 has furious memes, the 1990s had a Viz cartoon about a corrupt Tory called Baxter Basics.

Comment: Oasis are a band like no other – the reunion hype is fully justified

Roisin O’Connor reports:

Naysayers might ask why a band reunion is generating so much hype when plenty of their Britpop peers have done the same in recent years. Blur returned to Wembley in July 2023, the same month that Pulp sold out Finsbury Park as part of their massive UK tour.

But no other rock band of their time really compares when it comes to that narrative arc: the humble origins, the difficult childhoods then the rise to global fame. The partying, the excess. Then the Romulus and Remus-level fallout of 2009, when Liam squared off with his brother in a backstage room at Rock en Seine festival in Paris, wielding Noel’s guitar “like an axe”. And now, the reconciliation.

How to get tickets to see Noel and Liam in Manchester, London, Edinburgh and Dublin

Noel and Liam Gallagher have put their long-running feud behind them, as a huge Oasis tour has been announced for 2025.

The storied rock band will play stadium shows in Manchester, London, Edinburgh and Dublin, with gigs outside Europe to be added at a later date.

Their reunion announcement comes right before the 30-year anniversary of Definitely Maybe, the band’s record-breaking debut album. Next year, meanwhile, will mark the 30th anniversary of their follow-up, (What’s the Story) Morning Glory?, one of the biggest-selling LPs by a British act of all time.

Here’s everything we know so far about how to get tickets:

Fans who attended last ever Oasis gig say they have waited their ‘whole life’ for reunion

Oasis last performed together at V Festival in Staffordshire on 22 August 2009. They were due to appear the next day in Chelmsford, but left fans “gutted” after they didn’t take to the stage.

Chris Berrow, 34, told PA that getting to see Oasis in person after over a decade of waiting will “massively be unfinished business” for him.

“In the time in between, I became a professional guitar teacher, so I’m teaching kids how to play Wonderwall, Don’t Look Back In Anger, Champagne Supernova and I haven’t actually seen them together ever,” he said.

“I’m not somebody to cry very readily, but I think that could happen as I would be able to complete something I’ve been meaning to for what feels like my whole life.”

Oasis tour could be ‘once in a generation moment’ says top UK music executive

UK Music chief executive Tom Kiehl has said that the band’s tour could have “a lot of impact on local economies” due to the only European dates taking place across the UK and Ireland.

Mr Kiehl told PA: “Obviously, when rumours were mentioned a few years ago, it looked very unlikely that this would ever come to pass. So it could be a really once in a generation moment.”

He added, “Having a big music event in your community has a knock on and spill over impact on the wider economy too, so great news for the UK.”
