The rapper appeared for a performance of "Bang Bang" but was seen holding a hand to her earpiece as Grande apparently shouted "we can't hear anything" to the sound technicians.
Fans were left furious and upset on Minaj's behalf after what looked like an embarrassing moment for both artists.
"Nicki Minaj did not deserve that at all, I'm actually so annoyed, so painful to watch especially when it's something out of her control #Coachella,” one wrote on Twitter.
Another posted: “Who do I have to fight at #coachella for sabotaging the queen of rap, nicki minaj? I want to fist fight for thirty minutes. Period. I’ll be waiting for you AT THE DOOR #coachella2019.”
Others joked that one of Minaj's rivals, such as Mariah Carey or Cardi B, was behind the mess-up.
Diddy and Ma$e joined her on stage after NSYNC to perform Mo Money Mo Problems. The two rappers also appeared to struggle with sound issues, with many fans calling for the sound team to be “sacked”.
