From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The pop trio’s collaboration, which they performed at the MTV VMAs for the first time last month, has knocked Paloma Faith and Sigma’s “Changing” off the top spot.
“Big Bang” marks the first UK number one single for US rapper Nicki Minaj and the second for Ariana Grande after claiming the top spot with “Problem” featuring Iggy Azalea earlier this year.
The single is Jessie J’s first number one since the release of “Domino” almost three years ago.
“Bang Bang” has been downloaded over 92,000 times and streamed over 800,000 times this week according to data from The Official Charts Company.
Meanwhile, Taylor Swift’s “Shake It Off” is up two places to number three, Calvin Harris and John Newman’s former number one “Blame” is at four. Lilly Wood & Robin Schulz’s “Prayer In C” completes the Top 5.
Following the success of Sheridan Smith’s new ITV biopic Cilla, and despite re-entering the chart midweek at number 40, Cilla Black’s former number one “Anyone Who Had A Heart” has finished the week just outside the Official Singles Chart Top 40 at Number 47.
