From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The One Direction star was not at his £5m home at the time and, according to the MailOnline, his personal assistant confronted the man when the incident occurred last summer.
A source told the publication that the suspect is understood to have followed another resident into the apartment block and entered Horan’s home through French doors after jumping onto his balcony from a neighbouring property.
The female personal assistant called security, who called the police. The man was considered to be incoherent and on drugs and so he was released.
However he returned to the building the following day and was intercepted by security before being arrested.
The 29-year-old pleaded not guilty to two charges of burglary with intent at Kingston Crown Court last December but was remanded in custody. He will now stand trial on 5 July.
A spokesman for the Metropolitan Police said: “The suspect was charged by postal requisition on 7 August, 2020 for burglary with intent to steal. He will appear at Kingston Crown Court on Monday, 5 July.”
Horan has not commented on the ongoing criminal case.
The “Slow Hands” singer had posted videos of his apartment during the start of the coronavirus lockdown in March 2020, showing his dining room, living room and balcony.
Horan’s solo album, Heartbreak Weather, came out last year. He told The Independent: “Sad love songs can be very selfish, very ‘poor me’, so I was trying to write in a way that didn’t make it all as sad as I was. I didn’t want to make it all about myself, but also to admit some flaws, like the egotistical moments.”
