From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

K-pop stars BTS were one of the biggest winners of the night at this year’s virtual MTV EMAs ceremony, taking home four awards.

The event, which was hosted by British pop group Little Mix, included high-octane performances from David Guetta and Raye, Maluma and more.

BTS took home the prizes for Best Song, Best Group, Biggest Fans and Best Virtual Live Gig.

Lady Gaga, the most-nominated artist of the night, won the Best Artist and Best US Act awards, while Justin Bieber received an award for his appearance in DJ Khaled and Drake’s music video for “Popstar”.

Along with hosting the night, Little Mix were also acknowledged via wins for Best Pop Act, and Best UK & Ireland Act. They performed their new single “Sweet Melody”, and later thanked their fans on Twitter with the message: “You did all that!!!”

The group appeared at the event without member Jesy Nelson after she was taken ill. Nelson also missed Saturday night’s (7 November) final of The Search due to illness.
