Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

On Tuesday in the blogosphere, people are talking about Jay Reatard, the Memphis garage rocker who died on January 13. Also getting mention is the US group Vampire Weekend, whose album Contra was released on January 11 and whose success is due largely to praise from music bloggers. Rounding out the top three is Swedish band jj, which just released a new track from its forthcoming CD jj no 3.

Also popular among music bloggers is indie rock band Spoon, whose seventh studio album Transference, was released January 18. The band hails from Austin, Texas, and is due to headline the South by Southwest festival in that town in mid-March. The group is also currently gearing up for February tour dates in North America and Europe.

Coming in as the fifth most blogged about artist of the day is British electropop band Hot Chip, whose song "Ready for the Floor' earned a 2009 Grammy nomination for Best Dance Recording. The group is set to begin a world tour January 30 in London in support of its album One Life Stand, due out February 8.
