The singer made the allegation on his website, days after he was seen in a video ejecting the protestor from his concert.
A new post in the section titled “messages from Morrissey” consists of a photo of the crowd assembled to listen to the musician during a recent show in San Diego, California.
The caption reads: “No ‘politically offended protestors’ (as paid for and planted in the crowd by the British press) in sight...”
Morrissey didn’t elaborate on how he had arrived at this theory.
The singer, who endorsed the far-right party For Britain in April 2018, was seen taking the protestor to task in fan footage published online last week.
The protestor was spotted among the crowd in Portland, Oregon, holding up two signs. One of them bore a crossed-out For Britain logo and the other read “Bigmouth indeed”, an apparent reference to the Smiths’ song “Bigmouth Strikes Again”.
Morrissey interrupted his performance and said in the microphone: “When you with the sign are removed, I will continue. Otherwise, get out. Now!”
He then repeated: “Go!” several times, telling the protester: “We don’t need you” and “Goodbye.”
The protestor appeared to leave and the concert resumed.
